random thoughts come together

Done this morning - took about an hour and half to build every bit done in illustrator

I have tried to do other tribal's in illustrators but just wasn't very happy with the results, my buddy and I got talking about doing a design for his back to I kind of took a second look at it, and just kind of through this together. I am really excited about the results to I think I may be doing quite a few more of these before the week is out. An interesting note, my buddy when I come up with a design he like and decides to get it plans on getting the drop shadow as well.

so I really feel like there is more work to be done here but at the moment I cant really think of what exactly needs to change. Making something that looks like sewn together coderoy was really interesting, and I think the over all effect is great, unfortunatly the way the material is made make the colors that are used somewhat restictive - I am sure this issue can be delt with. I didnt go with text rounding the circole because it just didnt feel right, at least for the moment. The name is not really a worth even considering but I think the font and layout is solid overall - Looking forward to your feedback

I was trying to make a better avatar icon for my online accounts. I was extremely happy with how this one turned out, but unfortunately its far to big to look good at the size it ends up being. Not only that but making it smaller make it lose most of its detail too, so I guess its a lost cause. By the way this is my (online) name that I use Zarun in what I call the beautiful writing. The main larger letter is a Z and then the whole name is written down the side in lower case. I invented all the characters, and they have gone through about five total reconstructions before getting to this point.

I keep wanting to work on logo ideas, I dont know why or what I plan on doing with them or if they are any good, but the desire is still there. That one thing that you dont think about much its hard enough to get people to pay attention to more traditional art works, but when coming from a design approach, people kind of stare at you and say "yeah it looks nice, maybe I dont get it?" Ah the torture of being brilliant.

I dont think it will be any surprise to you that this picture looks extremely better when seen at full rez however because since the original image is 17" x 10". It unfortunatly is so large that uploading a version of signifigant quality is impossible.

I made a few improvments, think its a lot better.

I have had these tattoo designs for a while now but getting into illustrator I figured I would have the ability to do them the justice that my pen cannot. I will get all the rest of them up soon. This is a back piece for solders and neck.

This is one of the characters from the sybolic language that I put together as part of a story a long time ago. It has been through quite a few interations since the beginning, though this is one of the character's that has made it through from the begging. This symbol is for the letter R the first letter in my first name. I realized that the brush tool in illustrator would make a nice compliment to the style that the sybols are in. I have wanted for a long time to do something with these symbols because they have been with me for a long time and have a lot of meaning for me. Its kind of an odd thing when I write them they just flow out of me but it seems that when others try to write them they can never get them right, not sure why.

Nothing too special to say here, more than anything I just wanted to come up with a good solid minimal wallpaper design. I think it really has good impact and gets tha message across. Leaned how to do a drop shadow on this one too.

Another logo idea, this time using gylphs to imply different meanings. I really love doing logo's I think there are few things that are as functional and good looking as a well designed logo. With this one I tried pacify the initial reading of the slogan with colors that are calming and friendly. The background looking like the always watching eye and the arrows are the movement of forward progress.

Another vector wallpaper, just trying somthing new. It all works okay but the text that fades into the background doesnt line up properly. I suppose there is some way to do that in illustrator but I dont know how to do it yet ... got to get that going.

Nothing too special here, I just knew that this would be realativly easy to put together. Took about 20 minutes to trace and finish and I thought it works pretty well. And though I dont really think that most people like starwars as movies anymore I know that the starwars universe and the sum of its parts are pretty cool.

One more idea for the design studio idea, I kept with the idea of the backwards R because to me it sybolizes new ideas going forward, turning things that are established around and taking new path.

I came up with this name a while ago, just out of the blue and its kind of stuck. I think its pretty strong and stands up and rolls out of the mouth pretty easily. Since it has been my dream for quite some time to own a design firm I though this idea for the logo seemed pretty strong.

these were all done with logo creator, these are kind of old but I didn't post them here until now. I think in general these are all still very solid designs. One the top one the text became distorted because of resizing. Oh well.

By good friend and roommate mike is a big fan of KMFDM and was using a really terrible low rez pic of the a go go album cover. When I noticed I told him I would like to do a better version for him. The thing that took me the longest was finding the right pic of a woman to silhouette. Its very difficult to find pics of a woman that shows her entire body much less one were she is dancing. So I when I found all the elemements that I needed and put it all together. I was supper happy with the results. Surprisingly enough this didn't take me all that long to put together maybe an hour or two.

I saw a pic of Marilyn Manson on the way at school and was wishing that maybe someday I would do some work that would be worth of going up on the wall as well. When I realized that the reason it was probably chosen (the pic to paint not the pic itself) that it was because every pic on Manson is super high contrast, something that can make the daunting task of vector based painting a lot easier. So .... I did this one, and well I think it turned out really well. The reality was that this was very difficult to do, the face was almost completely redone three time. And the subtle shadows in the shirt were also very difficult.

The first vector based wallpaper that I was pretty happy with. The design is pretty simple and minimal, which I think is the real of strength of good design. I like the fact that the orange shape stands out so much, all the other colors are very neutral, and I think that's what really sets off the concept. The most interesting thing to me is that notice that one of the hexagons doesn't have a black border around it and for me that really draws my eye, but in reality that was completely unintentional.

This is my very first vector based painting, I just kind of sat down and did it, and I think that results are pretty great. The pic I chose was pretty perfect for this kind of thing so I cant take too much credit. Though many may think that this kind of art is simply tracing over photo's I can assure you that there is far more too it than that.

This was intended to be a new logo for a music group that was found on myspace. I really enjoyed there music so I thought I would try to make a new logo for them, I though the one they use now a little amateurish, and I thought if I could do a nicer one for them I could perhaps in some small way help promote them and get the word out on how great they are. I felt like I finished this one but I still a few weeks later haven't gotten any feedback on it. Well if they are interested I guess they will let me know.

This pic reminded me of those 70's sci fi movies, and I though it would make a good imagine for a wallpaper. I think unfortunately most people can only focus on the nudity contained here in, though for me and my original intention this was just one of small things that make up the whole of this design. I made a real attempt here to give a circutboard feel with all lines running every which way with such purpose.

At the time this was looking so good to me, with all the new things I have learned it seem so clunky and amateurish. I do like the idea of combining the classic with the modern, I think that design is at its antithesis is that very thing.

As time goes on and the tools I get to work with get better these somewhat older designs seems to pathetic and uninspired. Its amazing how your satisfaction can get drained away over time. Its all thanks to improvment and that cant be a bad thing.

I really though Daft punk deserved a wallpaper. It was pretty hard to find a good higher quality pic to use for this. I know that the design is pretty simple but I still think its relativly successful.
